One of our goals at WLC is to help our homeschooled students experience some of the “fun parts” of school that are more difficult to replicate at home—like the extracurricular activities! To that end, we have a number of student clubs and organizations that meet in the afternoons periodically throughout the year. (Check out A Day at WLC to see how extracurriculars fit into our daily rhythm.)
One of our favorite activities is our awesome school newspaper, The Westside Star-Telegram. We publish four issues each year, full of news stories, classmate features, music reviews, gaming recommendations, jokes, poems, recipes, puzzles, and student art.
We encourage all of our older students to contribute to the newspaper in whatever way feels best to them—and we feature submissions from our younger students as well. Click here to check out our most recent issue!
Our Student Council does so much to enrich our community! They are responsible for implementing fun, new traditions at WLC, organizing service projects, and creating our student-led clubs.
Elections for a team of President + Vice President are held in the fall, with everyone who runs becoming a member of the Council. We meet several times each semester to make plans and put them into action!
Our students love to share what they’re passionate about with each other—especially when they get to be in charge! 😆 So student-led clubs pop up at WLC all the time! Some are created by our Student Council, others happen spontaneously...but all are a ton of fun!
