We believe in the power of self-directed learning and play, so we make sure kiddos have plenty of time for it every day at WLC. (Check out A Day at WLC to see how play time fits into our daily rhythm.)
After class ends, everyone gets to “choose their own adventure” for the afternoon—swinging on the playground and listening to music with friends, rustling up an opponent for chess, opening a plushie pet store, playing the piano, inventing a brand new game to teach everyone...or anything else they can dream up!
There’s just so much magic in mixed-age play, and we’re here for it! ☺️
We absolutely love drawing, crafting, performing skits, making videos, and choreographing dances.
We play chess, cards, checkers, puzzles, and aaaall the board games too. Did we mention chess? We play a lot of chess. 😁
Whether it’s guitar, ukulele, piano, or drums, there’s almost always music to be heard at WLC.
We build with blocks and Legos; we play restaurant, ice cream shop, and pet store; we construct awesome trains and cities.
We have fun in the kitchen whipping up recipes and inventing our own—mug brownies, crazy ramen, fancy lemonade...
Roller skating in the halls, epic hide-and-seek games, playing on the playground, practicing gymnastics...
Our teachers love to play too and are always ready to join in the kiddos’ fun!
We let the students take the lead, but when they want help facilitating their plans, we’re happy to step in. We’ve helped organize capture-the-flag games, real-life Night at the Musuem games, and school-wide Gartic Phone games.
Play is central at WLC!
